What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a hands-on body therapy, using acupressure, to restore balance to mind, body and spirit.

Shiatsu  literally means ” finger pressure”. However the pressure of the thumbs, palms, elbows, knees and feet are also used to stimulate key meridians,(energy channels), in the body.

To begin, the practitioner takes a case history and then invites you to lie fully loose comfortable clothed on a futon mattress or massage table. For 45 minutes to one hour your body is effortlessly stretched and moved, the pressure points and meridians are activated, and your energetic system is coaxed back into balance. Shiatsu is a total body ‘ tune-up’.

By restoring the body’s equilibrium, regular sessions of Shiatsu may ease stress and stimulate the immune system. Shiatsu has been found to assist in the prevention and alleviation of a variety of ailments, including headaches, constipation, back pain, sciatica, insomnia and asthma. You may receive recommendations of exercises or specific lifestyle and diet changes to assist in the  healing process.

Shiatsu relieves tension, leaving you feeling restored and re-energised.
